Characteristics of students like socioeconomic level, learning styles / cognitive styles, cultural diversity, and giftedness can all play a role in a teacher’s lesson planning. Each of these characteristics have an impact.
Socioeconomic Level: Planning should consider the student’s basic needs. It should allow for less parent involvement due to parents having multiple jobs. Plans should also allow for remediation strategies in case a student’s skills are not appropriate for the lesson.
Learning Style / Cognitive Style: Planning should consider all types of learning styles. They should also appeal to all thinking styles
Cultural Diversity: Planning should consider promoting tolerance and respect for all cultures.
Giftedness: Planning should consider challenges that can help gifted student learn more.
